Catching Up With Phil (Again)
CATCHING UP WITH PHIL (AGAIN) Itâs late already for our common Tuesday get-together, and all sorts of ideas for posts have been stacking up, however itâs been a while since Iâve accomplished a type of spherical-up of all of the things which might be going on with lil ol me, so letâs see whatâs happening in Philâs World . . . Iâm currently finishing up two ghostwriting tasks, one operating very late. Neither of those books will ever bear my name and you'll by no means have any idea I had something to do with them, however Iâm quite pleased with being involved with each of them, so that (and the cash) should be ok for me. Why do we do that? Ghostwriting? For me itâs actually not concerning the money (though, potential publishers, you'll need some of that). If I approached any part of my life from that standpoint I wouldnât be scripting this right now. Instead Iâd be busy transferring other individualsâs cash round for anyone like Goldman Sachs. So yes, I get paid, and use that money for wild flights of fancy like shelter, electrical energy, and meals. But what those ghostwriting initiatives (and one other that Iâll be beginning in on before the top of the 12 months) present is a chance to do something fully different from what I usually do. I canât inform you what these books are however one is fiction, the opposite non-fiction and neither of them have something in any respect to do with science fiction or fantasy, or writing, or anything youâve previously seen my name hooked up to. Both are completely different from the opposite and I adore them both and sincerely am delighted to have a hand in them. These two books are two of the Three Really Pressing Overdue Projects Iâm currently busting my butt to finish. The third of those three is a comprehensive edit of a fantasy novel, the writer of which can or could not ever acknowledge my part in and I will leave that to mentioned creator to resolve. Itâs a terrific e-book and the author has a really tight, very r eadable fashion with a few issues I hope to help out with. Thereâs an anthology Iâm engaged on simply as a duplicate editor thatâs additionally great enjoyable and plenty more immediately in my established wheelhouse. Thatâll get finished in the subsequent month. Hook up with me via Writerâs Digest Iâve additionally been doing these individual story coaching periods with authors via Writerâs Digest, with another one on deck for the coming week. I strategy these much less as an editor and extra as an educatorâ"a role Iâve actually been drawn to prior to now few years. To that finish, Iâm most of the means via my eight-week Writing Fantasy & Science Fiction class at Bellevue College, with another round of Worldbuilding developing in the subsequent term (beginning January). At the same time I have a 4-week online Worldbuilding class through Writerâs Digest University, which is open to all. I hope they invite me again for a third go-around of that within the subsequ ent few months. Itâs one other distinctive new expertise, instructing online classes like that. And thereâs a new online tutorial from me, this one called Writing Scary that anybody who wants to determine a way of suspense or terror in their writing may benefit from. This is one other Writerâs Digest manufacturingâ"at all times delighted to work with them. Buy It Now! Writing Monsters is on the market and selling and when you havenât bought that but, disgrace on you! Monsters are superior and ought to be in everything everybody writes at all times. There. I stated it. What else? Oh, I ought to be writing a Traveller novel, and should be modifying two finished Traveller novels and must get to those immediately after lastly clearing the Log Jam That Would Not Be Cleared (a lesser recognized Lovecraftian horror). I love Traveller and I donât care who is aware of it. I must also be writing five extra jungle pulp tales for Tommy Hancock at Pro Se Productions so he can, yâkno w, publish them and stuff. And then thereâs the fantasy novel work-in-progress that Iâve been utilizing for instance of my fantasy novel work-in-progress so long itâs turn into that instead of, yâknow, a fantasy novel, full stop. Hm. What else? Iâm judging a contest but I gainedât let you know which one. Thatâs really really fun. Donât inform anybody I mentioned that. Iâve started studying A Fire Upon the Deep by Vernor Vinge along with a gaggle on GoodReads and have already mined it for examples for what I hope could be a follow-up to Writing Monsters that concentrates on sentient species. I might be able to put that proposal collectively by the tip of the yr. Iâve made the unilateral determination to take some time off by the top of this year, so for the record, Athans & Associates Creative Consulting will be closed, for the first time ever, for Thanksgiving and the Friday after and all of December 24th by way of to the primary Monday in January. In all honesty thereâs very little likelihood that more than a kind of days will really be utterly free of labor, however one can hope and plan. If I find yourself with a time off that will be fairly a change for the higher there, having not really taken a correct day without work, not to mention something resembling a trip, in about four years. They say that should you love what you do youâll never work a day in your life besides itâs a bit extra like when you love what you do youâll never take a day without work in your life and thatâs kind of a double-edged sword. I went to the physician right now and he or she was steadfastly towards writing me a prescription for crystal meth or another drug that might prevent me sleeping in any respect for the next three weeks. Thatâs more or less what might want to happen to get me to that âday offâ with any hope of taking day without work, and even then, with some projects (like that Traveller book or that fantasy novel) not really having b een started, properly, frankly, if Iâm writing my very own work that counts as âday off.â Also, this physician also maintains that the constant sleeping Iâve been doing (upwards of eight hours at a go) is actually âhealthy,â which is kind of fun expecting someone to be unconscious for a 3rd of a very restricted time in which to perform everything . . . weâll see what I can do on my own to get again to a more productive 4 to 5 hours. Willing to strive exercise at this level, or possibly these horrible energy drinks. Anyone know if Five Hour Energy is available in tablet kind so I donât need to choke down that syrupy pretend cherry crap? I guess thatâs the way it worksâ"itâs troublesome to fall asleep while vomiting. Have I gone off subject? Oh, yeah, and galley evaluation of the brand new R.A. Salvatore Forgotten Realms guide for Wizards of the Coast. And my doctor also gave me a referral for an additional doctor who will be capable of tell me whether or not or n ot I have Adult ADD, which can finally be an opportunity for me to get these medicine that will hold me awake and working. So, want me luck on that. So now youâre all caught up with Phil. Stay tuned. If these posts all of a sudden cease within the subsequent couple of months it receivedât be as a result of I forgot it'll mean that I have literally exploded in a shower of sparks, leaving, like one former Spinal Tap drummer, somewhat inexperienced globule as the only proof that I once existed. I am! I was! â"Philip Athans About Philip Athans Busy man. Glad you are forging a means via forests you like (largely)⦠Fill in your details beneath or click on an icon to log in:
